Authorities were called to EZ Laundry, 565 N. Main St. in Doylestown, early on Tuesday, March 21, for a report of theft, Central Bucks Regional police said in a statement.

There, staff showed them surveillance video of a man approaching the counter and removing the bills from the tip jar, investigators said. The man is then seen taking the whole jar, placing it under his jacket, and leaving, they continued.

Police later identified the suspect as David S. Murphy, a 57-year-old Doylestown resident, and took him into custody at his home, authorities wrote. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, they added.

Murphy was released and will return to court for a preliminary hearing on April 24, state court records show.
